How a Shopify perfume brand put its product and collection pages in front of Google searchers by rebuilding its menu, internal links, and brand signals.

Your blog can win thousands of searches and still leave your product pages unseen. That was exactly where this perfume brand stood: real search demand, but no clear path from a Google result to the products it sells.

What Is Internal Linking SEO?

Internal linking SEO is the practice of connecting your pages through a clear menu, relevant links, and descriptive anchor text, so Google and shoppers can reach your most valuable pages. For this perfume brand, it meant rebuilding the header menu, realigning categories, and pointing traffic-earning blog posts toward products.

A growing fragrance brand selling direct to shoppers through its own Shopify store, with a product catalog that search engines were barely reaching.

Who They Are

An online perfume brand running its own Shopify store, with shoppers in the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and the United States. The brand is kept anonymous in this case study.

What They Sell

A fragrance range organised into collections and individual product pages, supported by a blog of buying guides and best-seller lists that attract large search audiences.

The Engagement

A full-site SEO engagement: navigation, internal links, brand signals, page and blog updates, new content and a content calendar. Measured in Google Search Console from 21 August 2025 to 6 October 2026.

In the first six months measured, to 31 January 2026, the site earned 487 Google clicks from 5,380 impressions. Its best month was January, with 151 clicks.

Demand for perfume searches was clearly there. The site simply was not built to capture it, or to send the visitors it did win toward a product.

What We Found in the Audit

  • A header menu with no clear route to the products visitors came to buy
  • Menu categories that did not match how shoppers look for fragrances
  • Internal links stretched across too many pages, with anchors that said nothing
  • A brand name that was easy to miss in titles, headers and page copy

Why Shopify Stores Drift Into This

Buying guides and best-of lists match broad, high-volume searches, so they tend to rank first. Product and collection pages wait behind them.

Without a menu and links that lead onward, readers finish the article and leave. Vague anchors also give Google little signal about which product pages matter most.

Every change had to pass one test: does it shorten the path from a Google search to a product page? More content without that path only grows traffic that never reaches the checkout.

So the structure came first. The menu, the links between pages and the brand name were fixed before new content was added, so every new page would land on a site that already pointed toward products.

Google’s own guidance on writing crawlable links with descriptive anchor text supports this order. The anchor tells both Google and the shopper what sits on the other side of a link, and a vague one gives neither a reason to follow it.

Implementation Timeline

The changes rolled out in sequence, with structure first and content building on it.
Phase What Went Live Go-Live Date
1 Full-site audit, keyword mapping and navigation plan September 2025
2 Header menu redesign and category realignment October 2025
3 Internal link and anchor text cleanup November 2025
4 Brand emphasis and updates to every page December 2025
5 Blog post updates pointing readers to products January 2026
6 New content and monthly content calendar February 2026 onward

Clicks began climbing in February 2026, about four months after the new menu went live. That lag is normal for structural SEO: Google needs time to recrawl a site and re-rank pages once the way they connect has changed.

From 487 to 21,380 clicks once the pages pointed toward products.

Performance by Market

Three markets drive the store’s search traffic, and they sit in very different places on Google.
Market Average Position What It Means
United Arab Emirates 10.6 Page two, yet the largest source of clicks: 5,288 at a 2.19% click-through rate
Pakistan 6.9 Page one, with less than half the UAE click-through rate
United States 7.1 Page one, with less than half the UAE click-through rate

The UAE Finding

The most valuable market is also the one ranking lowest. UAE shoppers click at more than double the rate of Pakistan or US shoppers, even from page two.

UAE and Dubai queries alone earned 18,989 and 8,882 impressions. Lifting those searches onto page one is one of the clearest growth levers in the data.

Shopping Pages Now Earning Clicks

The rebuilt menu and links put the store’s shopping pages in front of Google searchers. Across 16 months, 61 homepage, product, and collection pages earned 5,878 clicks between them.
Page Type Clicks Pages Earning Clicks What It Shows
Homepage 3,522 1 Shoppers landing straight on the storefront
Product pages 2,140 45 Individual fragrances ranking for buyer searches
Collection pages 216 15 Category pages ranking now that the menu matches how shoppers search
Chart of Google clicks to a perfume brand's shopping pages: 3,522 homepage, 2,140 across 45 product pages and 216 across 15 collection pages

Product snippets added a further boost, earning 461 clicks at a 2.14% click-through rate. With 45 product pages and 15 collections now visible, the catalog has a footprint to build on.

The buying guides play a supporting role. Updated posts now act as entry points, linking readers into matching collections and products with descriptive anchors.

The Brand Search Finding

Shoppers search for this brand under many spellings, and the spelling decides whether they click.
Brand Query Type Impressions Clicks Click-Through Rate
Exact brand name 3,338 951 28.5%
Spelling variants (67 in the top 1,000 queries) 138,502 1,303 0.94%
Chart comparing brand search click-through rate for a perfume brand, 28.5% for the exact name against 0.94% for spelling variants

About 98% of the brand’s name impressions went to variants where few people clicked. A brand shown consistently in titles, headers, footers and copy gives Google more reason to connect every spelling to one business.

Rich Results Beyond Blue Links

Structured data turned plain listings into review and product snippets, and those listings earned clicks at roughly double the site average.
Search Appearance Clicks Click-Through Rate
Review snippets 1,215 2.61%
Product snippets 461 2.14%
Whole site average 24,423 1.2%

What Shoppers Searched For

The query report, covering 10,575 clicks, shows where buyer intent is still thin.

  • Generic best and top 10 searches: about 49% of query clicks. These readers are researching, not yet buying.
  • Price searches: only 169 clicks, a gap the next content phase targets directly.
  • Near me searches: none in the top 1,000 queries.

A Note on Reporting

159 table-of-contents anchor URLs show 2.19 million impressions and only 80 clicks. They inflate the page report to 4.27 million impressions against the real total of 2,004,657, so every figure on this page uses the clean totals.

What Comes Next

The new content calendar targets the gaps above, ordered by how quickly each can move a number.

The Takeaway: Structure Turns Search Into Shoppers

Clicks grew from 487 to 21,380 across two six-month periods, and 61 shopping pages now earn Google clicks. A clear menu, connected collections and descriptive links gave both Google and shoppers a route to the products, and every new page now builds on that structure.

We have done this work for 100+ businesses over 6+ years of white-hat SEO. No shortcuts, no guaranteed rankings, just a site built so search traffic can reach the checkout.
